November 2008, our ethereal Erica Nicole was inspired and compelled to record, Drive It Away, a soul wrenching, potent and revealingly emotional song with a message about survival and hope. During her interview at a local radio station, 92.5 FM, near Atlanta, GA, Erica was promoting theAmerican Cancer Society's 6th Annual Cattle Barons' Ball when a friend of the radio station, and now number one fan, called in to introduce herself as Rebecca Single, a local song-writer, musician and 2 time cancer survivor. She was both intrigued and touched by Erica's dedication to fly across to the country, to perform for her charity in the middle of preparing for her new CD! She asked Erica Nicole what her motivation was and learned she too had been deeply touched on a personal level by a family members experience with cancer.
The radio shows co-host, Charlie Filken, previously interviewed Ms. Single earlier in October to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month after hearing a song she had written for her hospital's charity, "Drive Away Breast Cancer". He was an aficionado of the song and offered to give Erica Nicole his personal copy out of his truck's CD player. "Drive It Away" debuted in September at Road Atlanta for Le Petit Elegance, a Lemans event hosted by Dr. Donald and Nancy Panoz for the Emory University School of Medicine, then performed by Coles Whalen. The radio hosts suggested Erica Nicole listen to the song and invited Ms. Single to join them the next evening at the ball.
Ms. Single was enthused to meet Erica Nicole after their on-air encounter and reveled in her performance of "Hungry Eyes", and other selections, sung beautifully under the stars with 400 other guests at the ball that momentous evening where the meeting of two hearts and minds collided. Erica Nicole, her parents and god parents and friends were all introduced. By the end of the week; the song, Drive It Away had touched both her family and her musical family across the country in California. Her mama lovingly recalls listening to it approximately 30 times while driving into the North Carolina Mountains and her daughter identifying different meanings and messages about hopes, friendships, pain, and survival in the song at every turn in the road.
Having both grown up in the country, Erica Nicole and Rebecca both recall and relish the freedom of the days of warm summer nights, stars, family and catching lightn'in bugs in Mason Jars. They also recall the hardships of aiding friends and family members they knew personally who were afflicted and challenged with various diseases throughout their lives. When you give, give with all of your heart. When you have to fight, fight with all your heart. Erica Nicole certainly gives this message through her gift of voice, and the heart of a country girl.m Ipsum.
